ShuarHands, Inc. works with Mayan women artisans who produce beautifully handmade products. Each item is a unique work-of-art.

Miss Conchita and other master artisans work with ShuarHands, Inc. Many of the artisans are single mothers and head-of-the-household.  They live in extreme poverty with their children in remote villages.
Our artisans live in rural regions of the Guatemalan highlands in the Departamento of San Marcos.

Traditional Huipiles

Huiples and cortes are the traditional dress for many indigenous women. It might take as long as a month for a woman to weave a single huipil when complex techniques or designs are incorporated. Through the choices of design, material finishing styles and technique, the information imbedded in the huipil can be read about the weaver's birth-place, religious background, social position, weaving skill, and personality.
